The children of Las Marias had no school to call their own. When they crossed the ravine to try and go to school, they were abused. In 2016 a school was built to teach and to train the children the basic skills of life. Along with 95 children, there are 18 adults learning to read and write. Several adults graduated in December 2019, our first graduating class.
A work in process.
During Covid-19 the decision was made, while there was no school attendance, to remove the tin roof and have a flat concrete roof installed so that a second level could be added. This will provide a classroom per grade. The cost of the second floor comes out at $20 per square foot. There are 3225 square feet on this level bringing the cost to $64,500.
New classrooms!
After installing the concrete roof and piers through the walls into the ground, everything needed to be resurfaced with stucco and paint. New wiring for ceiling lights needed to be run. Now instead of a single light per classroom, there are 6 new LED fixtures.

3 more classrooms upstairs will give us a classroom per grade. We exist and have been able to grow this far with only the help we receive from people like you.
